We have partnered with the Bunanyung Landscape Alliance to create habitat patches and biolinks between the Wombat and Enfield State Forests for the rare Brush-tailed Phascogale

Project Facts

Habitat to be created
75 hectares
Number of plants to be planted
300,000 plants

3,000 tonnes
Target species
Brush-tailed Phascogale, Swift Parrot, Koala

Background

The Brush-tailed Phascogale is a small, nocturnal, tree-climbing, carnivorous marsupial with a black ‘brushy’ tail. The species is classified as rare. A major fire in the Brisbane Ranges National Park in 2006 burnt almost 40% of the park, with a severe loss of native phascogale numbers and their food supplies. Many hollow bearing trees were also destroyed in the fire. The decrease in habitat quality, loss to current population and the reduction in food supplies has had a major impact on phascogale survival and breeding success within the Brisbane Ranges area.

Brush-tailed Phascogale Habitat Project Details

Carbon Landscapes is working in partnership with the Bunanyung Landscape Alliance and Friends of the Brisbane Ranges to protect, enhance and restore native vegetation that is the main habitat for the Brush-tailed Phascogale. We are establishing nest boxes in trees to allow populations to recolonise recently established native vegetation plantations and are working with community groups and landowners to monitor populations.
