Carbon Landscapes is securing diverse types of ecosystems across Victoria to protect and enhance the habitat of many of our threatened species. Examples include Mallee Shrubland, Grassy Woodland and Coastal Saltmarsh. Learn more about our nature havens below.
Little Desert Conservation Project
In the wake of the devastating 2025 summer bushfires, this 500-hectare property in the Little Desert region has become a top priority for Carbon Landscapes. Situated on Barengi Gadjin Country and largely surrounded by the Little Desert National Park, the property is protected under a Conservation Covenant through Trust for Nature. It contains some of the last remaining patches of remnant Mallee vegetation on private land in Victoria—an ecosystem critical to the survival of unique and threatened native fauna.
Our mission is to restore this landscape and create a thriving habitat where wildlife, especially the vulnerable Malleefowl, can return and flourish.
The Gariwerd (Grampians) National Park is an isolated stronghold for the Long-nosed Potoroo and Smoky Mouse. Our Gariwerd Restoration Project will become a safe harbour for existing species within the Grampians National Park and a soft release site for additional species for the future.
Carbon Landscapes is working with Nooramunga Trust, Rendere Trust and EcoGipps to manage two conservation islands near Wilsons Promontory in South Gippsland. Little Dog Island and Bullock Island are located in Corner Inlet, a Ramsar-listed Wetland of International Importance and a nature haven for threatened fauna and migratory birds, including the critically endangered Orange-bellied Parrot. Both islands are of strategic importance in protecting coastal saltmarsh, a crucial habitat requirement for the endangered Far Eastern Curlew, Great Knot and critically endangered Orange-bellied Parrot.
Carbon Landscapes is working in partnership with Zoos Victoria and Trust for Nature to determine if our Telopea Downs property can support threatened species, such as the Mallee Emu-wren. Telopea Downs is a nature haven for many threatened species, including a stable population of Malleefowl, a species listed as endangered in Victoria.
Carbon Landscapes is partnering with the Odonata Foundation to ‘rewild’ over 400 hectares of threatened Stony Rise Woodland. We are working to understand how best to use this amazing habitat to support potential endangered fauna species such as the Spotted-tail Quoll, Koala and Long-nosed Potoroo.
